The Becker bunch and their every day trials and tribulations x 7!
Growing from 4 to 7 in just ten days has proven to be both challenging, enlightening, frustrating, overwhelming and most often pretty funny. It is always better to laugh than to cry!

Day one at the new house- yard work only
Home is where the heart is. Home is where Mom is. All it takes is love to make a house a home.
on and on.
The little bungalow has heart, mom and love. It is time to start filling up the tudor on Grant st.
My emotional rollercoaster has gone from pure excitement to total devastation. But it is time to put on big pants and get in to this. We are moving. It will be a good thing. Done.
So since HUD won't let me in to my new abode until we close, unless I bug the realtor, we decided to take on the yard and the curb appeal. I begged my mother to attend because I knew I needed reinforcements.
So with lots of yard tools. Lots of plants thinned from the Calhoun yard. #1 and #2 and my Mom. I descended on the uncared for property and began filling in the love.
It needs a lot more. A lot. But fill it I will and we will be happy there. or else.

The best way to brave the hair-- get help! Hair post #2
The first three photos are my creations.
However, when I really want the girls to look snappy and I have the time and money, the best thing to do is have their hair done. #3 went to her favorite stylist Amber at the mall and now has a faux hawk of beads which is really fun and sassy.
Bruiser actually went home with her favorite care provider from The Creche and when I picked her up she had cheetos and a full head of pink and white beads.

A day with some very Brave men: fathers, Godfathers and grandfathers
Father's Day weekend. A time for me to go overbooard planning, shopping and celebrating the man who I think is pretty darn amazing.
Papa Carl is Mr. Man's Godfather but all the kids manage to corral him for attention.
The kids are assigned to make cards, the morning and afternoon are set aside for whatever 'HE' wishes, guessing and second guessing on the perfect gift(s) for the man who gets excited about gifts but always says 'don't get me anything, we are saving money.'

The began with a tough trip to church. When will this get easier!
Then coffee and bagels and a park. The park outing led to tired babies, which led to nap time.
Which led to everyone taking naps!
Yipppee!
The evening was spent at the farm with my brothers, Fathers or Godfathers all. My mother's husband, Papa, who is a great grandpapa to the whole crew of grandkids.
We gathered at the farm for Yaki-poo (washer toss), drinks, playing outside, mexican treats made by Kelly's new friend Soli and a yummy grilled dinner.
Grandpa John wasn't at the farm, but we will get to celebrate with him soon. He has been a super grandpa.
Kelly is Bruiser's God father: they bonded instantly in March and Bruiser attaches to him the minute he comes home for a visit.
There was laughter and fun and all the kids kept the energy up and the adults followed suit.
I am very lucky that I have so many really wonderful males in my life. My children are lucky as well and they all benefit from the role modeling they see from these great guys and their amazing father.
Uncle Stephen is Godfather to #1. He is seen here with Emily, Guy's youngest. All the kids love Uncle Stephen, but truthfully, he and #2 are the closest.

Vacation Photos! Not in chronological order!
Reflections on the first of many...
A few people thought us brave; most people thought us stupid. Some called every five minutes to check if we were still going, others showed up at the last minute bearing gifts cleverly disguised as supplies. (Thats our Fairy Godmother for you. A playboy chair and a set of glo in the dark bracelets. Ok OK, and the world's coolest, easiest to set up 4 person tent ever.)
The first leg of the journey was fine. Left 3 hours later than planned, but really that is pretty much on schedule for us. We managed a fairly uneventful first leg of the trip and stopped in Kearney. There we found every state trooper in the state in nearly every hotel room in Kearney. OOPS. But luck was with us as the Country Inn and Suites just had to give us a full suite for a regular room price. Awesome. It was midnight, all 3 small ones were asleep. All 3 small ones woke up in time to rejoice in the new room. No one slept till 2.
Day two was tougher. Tail light went out on the trailer, therefore we didnt leave Kearney till nearly 10. Child #2 admitted she was feeling pretty sick and was pretty sick by the time we got to Ogallala. I took her to the local clinic and Dad took the crew to a park for lunch and planned to come back for us in 40 minutes. About 45 minutes later I heard a terrible grating noise. Then I saw the Honda, the trailer, and the open cooler being dragged behind it. Here is where I must admit 2 things: A) my first thought was the beer and wine had to be shattered on the road way and B) relief because at the last minute I chose to put in a cheap bottle of white and leave the good white from FG at home. Whew. After those thoughts I realized that all the premade meals were scattered down mainstreet Ogalala. What a mess!
I went to Safeway to get the prescription and replacements. My dear man went back to retrace his route and find our food. Lo and Behold! He did! All but the beer and wine. Curses those glass bottles!
We didnt arrive in Estes and RMNP till very late and set up involved rain and very crabby kids.
But the morning dawned clear and all the remaining mornings did too. We didn't do our usual 5-8 miles a day followed by a late lunch, reading in the hammock, late dinner and chatting around the fire.
No long hikes, but no sitting either. We were up and running early and besides nap time, there was little rest. The hikes weren't challenging in their usual way, but escorting 5 kids for a mile at a time is a challenge in its own right.
The last night came and while I feared we would all be relieved to go home, I was wrong. It was the same bitter sweet feeling as always. I could have stayed quite a bit longer and turns out so could everyone else. Except Mr Man who desperately wanted to get home to watch 'Tangled' in the basement. Poor guy.
We changed the seating arrangement for the return trip and it worked. Made it all the way to Gothenberg with just two stops. More rejoicing in another hotel and down to bed for everyone.
The return home was met with wonder and joy and talks of our next trip.
Monday night I settled in on the couch next to my dear man to watch an episode of MadMen. We clinked our glasses and toasted ourselves for the grand accomplishment of doing something so well when even we half expected to fail.
We just may be learning to be the parents of 5.

Bear Lake Becker Style (with photos)
Someone forgot to tell Colorado and the Rockies that it is approaching summer. And by the way, I know why all the reservoirs and rivers are flooding...there is a TON of snow up here. Good thing that while MANY MANY MANY things got left behind (worst packing job by parents ever) I did bring snow boots.
We tromped, slid, splashed and slipped our way around 1/2 of Bear lake and back this a.m. It is perfectly blue sky and 65 here. AMAZING. There are Elk everywhere and all 3 new kids seem to be completely impressed.
Bruiser wins the super trooper award and I am very impressed with her stamina and determination so far. Mr. Man wins the cutest but lousiest piggy back rider, EVER award.
#3 had a moment of melt down and fit throwing but rebounded lovely and enjoyed the rest of the hike.
#1 and #2 are simply super sisters. Plain old super. Which is why during nap time we escaped to our favorite coffee shop and strolled the quaint shops of Estes.
sssssshhhhhh, we don't have to completely rough it!
8 car hours... STUPID! (with photos)
Yesterday was hard. Super hard. The twins really didn't get the whole drive forever thing. Bruiser became emotionally unstable. Mr Man starting yelling for watching Tangled in the basement. #3 was settled between two big sisters and went back and forth, using every trick in the book, to make them miserable.
We arrived in RMNP at the campsite with 45 minutes of light and rain moving in. Lovely.
BUT, we got set up. Including superwoman here setting up tents and laying out tarps with one hand and Bruiser on my hip.
Just as I was about to cry #3 came in the tent, flopped on the air mattress and said, " you were right, this is the best day ever."
So OK, maybe it is going to be worth it.

Brave, but may prove stupid!
One more day of school for me and then summer begins immediately with a camping trip x7. Something we have never done before. The Beckers haven't been back to Rocky Mountain National Park in 3 years. We miss it. The 4 original Beckers are good campers. We function well, have our jobs and traditions down and love everything from the outdoors, cold sleeping and yummy campfire food to the dirty camping feet and sleeping in the same smoke smelling clothes each night.
Enter #3 and Things One and Two. I so hope they love it. I have to admit that camping doesn't seem a perfect fit for #3, but then most would be surprised to see how much #1 loves it.
The drive is my biggest worry, then the fire.
My next post will have photos of what I hope is a successful and restful trip! (restful? um stupid.)

Whew!
The new house. Such a relief to know where we will be and that we all love it!
June 3, 2011. The last three and half hours with students. The end of the school year. What a year it was!

the year. Did so well in math she was offered a chance to skip a year. Played basketball, high jumped, stage managed and won the first ever Technical Theater award for middle school.

#1 kicked butt and was recognized by EVERY department at DASH for outstanding work. Had large fun roles in both the productions of the year.
Made lasting friendships and a positive impression on her new school.

#2 kicked butt too. Accomplished all A's for most of

#3mastered kindergarten in a way no one expected. All the way through first semester there was talk of holding her back. By the year's end that talk was gone and she was doing
great! She is very excited for 1st grade and already counting days till it comes.
Things one and two fell in love with their new school and their school fell in love with them. What a relief. I love the creche and the way they open their hearts to the kids. Hugs are given freely and discipline is with love and logic. Both twins sing their ABC's and try to read books. They do crafts and have friends. They will attend 'school' all summer and #3 will join them on a few days a week for half days, just for the practice of some projects and making some friends.
The parents managed nearly 10 productions, 7 schedules, sold a house, bought a house and are now planning a move.
WHEW might be an understatement. We made it in fine fashion and I am proud of us all. (And so very grateful for all the folks and family who helped us through!
