The Becker bunch and their every day trials and tribulations x 7!

Growing from 4 to 7 in just ten days has proven to be both challenging, enlightening, frustrating, overwhelming and most often pretty funny. It is always better to laugh than to cry!

Stupid!

After a summer of training and planning and fundraising, the Omaha Half Marathon has come and gone. Good riddance. I think this was my last one. I am writing this here so that next year when I am tempted to sign up again I have proof that I gave myself the option of saying NO!

I was fully prepared, we picked a good pace, I had my husband beside me, my 5 lovely kids on my back AND it was still hard and not exactly a fun experience.

I am grateful that God gave me the health to run. I am grateful that God gave me a husband who is loyal enough to run with me stride for stride. I am grateful that God created Harry and Bertha Holt, who created Holt International, who created Holt Fontana, who took care of my babies till they came home. But yesterday at 9:35a.m. I was mostly grateful that the race was done.

Thomas and I raised 400.00 for Holt. A small contribution to a great organization.

I will now go back to nice normal workouts of swimming, lifting, running shorter distances and utilizing other cardio exercises. I will no longer be a slave to getting miles in each week.

While I should be feeling brave for tackling the half marathon, as I suck down water and ibuprofen for the 3rd day in row I feel mostly stupid.

I will continue to feel grateful for health and family, I just won't run to prove it.

No photos in this entry...believe me, you don't want to see post race photos.

  1. NOT STUPID. OK....you know I think running unless you are being chased by someone with a machete is stupid. But what you did was BRAVE, BRAVE, BRAVE. I am proud of you and Thomas and I am so grateful to Holt for bringing you the rest of your family.

And I will be bribing your kids for pictures. And I will post them on my own blog.
