#2 and I showed up ready to work on the new place and were greeted by a GIANT yellow caution sign. It warned us that eating, drinking, smoking near the property was a health hazard and that NO ONE SHOULD ENTER!
Yikes!
We haven't even added our real chaos to this quiet little neighborhood and they are already labeling us and warning folks?
What to do? #2 and I chose the obvious and started working on the yard.
We were joined about an hour later by Hubby and #1. Hubby, being the artist and former house painter barely looked at the caution sign. He noticed right away that there had been painting work done and it didn't match and was splattered on the brick. Yikes#2!
Our poor realtor is probably sick to death of us because a lot of phone calls were exchanged. Turns out that the house had lead paint in window casements and door jambs. Is any home built before 1965 any different? But this is a HUD home and someone wanted to turn a buck on the FEDS. So they tested the crap out of it, turned up positive results and then went to work painting the crap out of it. Looks horrible.
I guess our recourse is to submit bids for repainting it back to matching colors to cover the lead. So the FEDS will get to pay up twice. BTW- your tax dollars at work. Sorry.
#1, #2 and I just kept on planting. The yards, front and back, are really taking shape. I love this little yard. The house is growing on me.
It is going to take more than a few yellow caution signs to slow me down!
I will PERSONALLY break into this house and lick all the lead paint off. Just sayin'.
